But have you ever tried grating hard vegetables by hand - using a standard grater? How many band-aids did you need after that? Worse still - the 'mandolin'. I'm not ever touching that. The very thought of an evil device like that near my fingertips makes the hair on my neck stand on end :-)&lt;/p&gt;

		<description>For me, it is not 'machine vs knife', but 'knife vs hands'. If you tear the greenery (lettuce, other grass-type stuff) with hands, it'll produce lots of juice, which is more tasty, than chopped stuff.

Then again, chopping is much faster and easier (and less messy), so using knife is a good option.

Do you think using a chopper (processor) turns cooking into a chore from something useful? Cooking used to be a ritual of sorts, with all measuring, adding, mixing, etc, now it can be done in seconds by some machine. What do you think?</description>
