Peeling and Seeding Tomatoes
Tomatoes are a popular addition to many salad dishes, but some salad recipes call for peeled and seeded tomatoes. This simple step-by-step guide will tell you how to peel and seed tomatoes quickly and easily.
Peeling Tomatoes
Bring a large saucepan of water to the boil.
Using a sharp knife, cut a small cross into the base of each tomato you want to peel. Place the tomatoes into the boiling water for one minute, use a slotted spoon like this one,
to place the tomatoes into the water, this will stop you from getting splashed with boiling water if you were to drop them into the water.

The skin of the tomatoes will split where you have made the cross at the base.
Using a spoon, and after one minute, remove the tomatoes from the water and place on a plate, leave them until they are cool enough for you to handle.
Once you can handle the tomatoes, using a sharp knife peel back the skin of the tomatoes, do this by using the split corners of the cross you made earlier in the base of the tomato.
If the skin does not come away, place the tomatoes back in the boiling water for a further 30 seconds to further loosen the skin.
Seeding Tomatoes
Cut the peeled tomatoes into halves.
Over a bowl, gently squeeze each half, so that seeds fall out. Use a small spoon the scrape any that don’t fall into the bowl.
Congratulations, you now have only the tasty fleshy part of the tomatoes left and ready to add to your killer salad recipes.
